http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_8594000/8594561.stm well, not exactly "news". James Lovelock, the *scientist* who popularized Gaia theory, is 90 years old and is interviewed here.

john_c_lilly (the_scientist) in a float tank had a vision. saw the earth circa 3500_AD leave orbit as a ship. if i remember right he spoke of it having to warm_up enough first. as for climate_change and_all_that, it seems we got distracted by the temperature of the earth when the real issue is that irresponsible us of technology is causing a problem of poisoning and contamination. co2 is not a concern. anyone can see through that. it's the industrial_waste that to make a near_sighted profit is causing a fowl longterm issue.

glad you can be so confident. pollution is certainly a problem, sure. as for global warming, it's not hard: melting icecaps mean rising sea level and there go your low sea level areas... whole island nations all the way up to New York City in really bad cases. or, more complicatedly, the melted icecaps shut down the Gulf Stream and throw the earth into an Ice Age. is the earth's population sustainable in Ice Age conditions? no one knows. we'll just have to adapt. no more having babies, okay? Lilly was a psychologist so he was probably having a psychological vision... perhaps (i don't really know, though) extraordinary unconsolable depression with the earth knocked out of sun's orbit.... lovelock is an atmospheric scientist.

well, wouldn't you think that any visions caused by drugs are grounded in the psyche somehow? i know all my hallucinations are grounded in certain realities. such as: where does all the waste go? Freudian in the extreme! Stan Grof did a lot of work with acid hallucinations and the birth trauma. check, double check on that one. i expect that i will repeat that vision, too, all the way into the future, until i finally fix it in the past, or whatever. heck, with the earth in its decline maybe i'll need to not even go for birth until i get pushed into it for Goddish reasons that the angels will need be responsible for cranking me out a destiny for. probably that already happens, to a certain extent and free will is really very limited. to come full circle, i sure have a problem with all the SUV owners around me and think that maybe these should be regulated as much as possible. or it will all be on their heads, in the end. probably i drove an SUV in my most previous life, being such a "reform" addict that i am. addictions make the world go round, somehow, until it doesn't, according to Lilly's vision. yes, he was ending all his addictions. that's my final answer. pretty grounded, but fractured. right?
