misunderstandings_and_mistakes
If a person misunderstands you, that doesn't make their assessment of your words or actions true. That seems pretty clear. But what if ten people misunderstand you? What about twenty? This is where things get a little more difficult, it's harder to just write that off. Obviously, there was a breakdown in communication, but does that make their perception your reality? Does their opinion override your intent? I would say no. Maybe the people that misinterpreted you were reading too far into what you were saying, when the meaning wasn't buried at all, and was right on the surface all along? And if there was such a large gap from intent to interpretation, were the parties involved really listening in the first place? I would say maybe they were, maybe they weren't - it's hard to tell. Perhaps outside forces had influenced their opinion of you over time, portraying a false, incorrect, and misleading representation of you and your actions, which had unduly influenced said peoples opinion of you. Maybe there's more to the story than anyone knows, or anyone could know. Or, you might have just said something kind of offhandedly, hurriedly, not thinking enough about how it would be taken, realizing only later how great of a mistake you really made. 121216
