I wonder how two people can be happy for 18 years together, and then just...
grow apart and create entirely new lives. or how this can happen more than once, and families get complicated and unorganized.
I understood the need for divorce. All the counseling and stupid divorce workbooks tossed at me in fifth grade taught me that divorce is OK. Marriage is not a sacred bind, its mostly a mistake that you can back out of. have fun for a while, and when you're done...divorce. Its not that simple, I know. Maybe it is for some. In any case, I am desensitized to the importance and gravity of marriage.
and anyway, there are now reality shows that involve getting married to a stranger. Thats always a good idea....

marriage is SUPPOSED to be a sacred thing, but people don't think much before they act when it comes to marriage. i know i won't marry until i'm SURE it'll work, which may never happen. that's just fine with me.

I used to think that marriage was sacred, that gays shouldn't be allowed to marry. But then I thought of Prince (remember him? the paisleyed singer?) who got married by playing "Kama Sutra" on his guitar while his blessed beloved walked to the altar in negligee, and they kissed and walked out. If that's a marriage, then I guess just about anything can be a marriage.

that wedding may have not been sacred, but the marriage is supposed to be. man & woman, man & man, woman & woman... whatever. it's the promise to love each other that matters

i got quite angry for a while when i started to notice the exploitation of marraige on television. "who wants to marry a millionare?" these people are taking holy vows to stay with each other "till death do us part." and i'm not really a traditionalist, but i figure, if you're going to do it, it might as well mean something. what's the point of getting married for a day? not to mention the exploitation of just about everything else on tv. man, i should really stop jane's_rant ing

I feel the same way, jane.
everything is instant_gratification anymore, that's one reason I don't watch much tv.
but when I do, it's cartoonscartoonscartoons!
mtv just doesn't have enough music on it. heh
