To infer an educated guess on the number of jellybeans in a jar, one has to determine a few things: - The height and width of the jar; - The shape of the jar; - The approximate percentage of the jar's volume that the jelly beans fill; and - The size of the jellybeans. Since most jelly-beans-in-a-jar-guessing-game contests do not allow you to use calculators, rulers, or note pads, it is preferable to make an educated guess based on the above factors. If you have good depth perception, and can do math in your head, follow these simple directions: 1. Figure out the height in the jar that the jellybeans go up to. (ie. 34 cm) 2. Figure out the diameter of the jar. (ie. 8 cm) 3. Multiply the number in step 2 by 3.14, and you have the area of the jar's base. 4. Now multiply the number in step one by the number in step 3, and you have the volume of the total number of jellybeans. 5. Now divide the number you got in step 4 by the approximate volume of a single jellybean (1 cm3), and you have a really good guess of the total number of jellybeans in the jar!! I hope that this helps anyone who understands it (lol).

Shit! I just noticed a big mistake in my calculation. You have to find the RADIUS, not the diameter of the jar, and do pi times r squared. This changes the number of jellybeans to 1 709. My bad...
