If you know you’re going to go far, be a car. Go with what drives you. If you don’t have anything to say, be an echo. Only speak when spoken to. If you’re going to stand around, be a locked file cabinet. Only share your contents with qualified staff. If you’re not busy being useful, be your belly button--- IT doesn’t hold back when you laugh. If you’re going to be in the bathroom a while, be a mirror. Always take time to reflect. If the day is yours, be weather. Don’t always do what they expect. If you’re going to be clothing, be a bra. Always be there for support. Or help connect a thought to the real world like a good printer port. If you’re going to be a tool, be a ladder. Reach as high as you can go, but take others up with you. And like a telescope, know there’s a lot to look up to. If you’re going to be at the desk, be a screen saver. Only go into sleep mode when you’re not busy. And like satellite TV, search for a better perspective when the view gets static-y. If you’re going to work hard, be an IBM. Be sure to crash every now and then. And if you run into a problem, be a calculator. Don’t be afraid to X – 10. (Take ten.) If you’re going to be an appliance, be a toaster. From the inside you’ll find your glow. …..but if you’re going to be in front of the TV, try to be a door, and not a window!!! Winter Hush and howl, he comes in pieces Dragon curls outside the door But in his calm he hides his fierceness He baits his bite with cold splendor Step outside, disturb his slumber Blight his realm and feel his wrath He’ll catch you weak, the patient hunter Will make you tremble at his breath. In crystal claws the earth is crushing The silent stillness of his spell lends To Life and Time’s death in his hushing No sound Outside All you know ends But we who turn the heater up And watch the world outside dissolve Find solace in a coffee cup And wish the storm could take it all. Pen Life is a story that’s written in pen; We’ve skipped the first chapters, and don’t know the end. No such thing as erasers for mistakes in each section But a good many mistakes are corrected with a change in direction. The Wolf and the Retriever Retriever headed towards the woods As darkness steals the day The frost-touched grass is bending back To see if wolf has come to play. Wolf stands tall among the pines Night the realm of this proud thing Icy stare that pierces blue A shadow slips to that unseen. The course is set, the wolf stands bored Retriever sets the pace The wolf is breaking all the rules There’s danger to this race His teeth are close, his breath is hot She cannot stray, but cannot fend Too close, too close, too far, too far This is a game she cannot win But for a dog to run with wolves Could never be, the foolish whelp! The wager’s too high for she to have tried And to lose that game is to lose herself. Think back to the day when you were born Past when you were two; I bet your mom held you in her arms I bet she smiled at you I bet she whispered into little ears The great things you would be But I bet what she wanted most from you Was to be the things YOU see When you look inside and find what makes You most you in your heart Your hopes, your dreams, and what you love And to follow your own star While sometimes the sky is cloudy And the moon forgets to shine The hardest thing to remember is Your star’s there all the time There are others all around you Chasing stars that are their own They all seem to be rushing somewhere else And it’s easy to feel alone I hope you’ll hope some find their dreams Sometimes some help you’ll lend And those who wish the same for you Are those you can call “friend” So here’s a wish for Chelsey Gean One I’m sure made from the start Be sure to do what’s inside you And be what’s in your heart.
