The top general in the US Marine Corps on Friday praised the controversial decision to hand over control of the battle-torn Iraqi city of Falluja to a former officer in Saddam Hussein's army, saying commanders on the ground were looking to expand such arrangements beyond the town. General Michael Hagee, the marine commandant, told a congressional hearing that he disagreed with critics who have argued the decision to turn security over to General Mohamed Abdul-Latif, commander of the Falluja Brigade, was a defeat, saying it had stabilised and pacified the area. "If that's a defeat, we need more defeats like that," Gen Hagee said. http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1084907744744
