unhinged 'growing up in poverty means becoming acquainted with the struggle. things like gang violence, hunger, evictions, and relatives coming and going to the penitentiary are not news headlines. they're normal occurrences. it's enough to dull your senses. you're exposed to many stresses of adulthood long before you're old enough to understand them. that's one of the main differences between the lower and upper class: time.

the middle class often protects their children by shielding them from what adulthood may bring, allowing them time to grow and mature as people. the impoverished protect their children by exposing them to everything as early as possible, to prepare them for life. that difference in time, so early in our lives, affects how well we'll move throughout the rest of our days.' - james prince

dafremen I'm always surprised at how squeamish and scared my friends with relatively normal upbringings are. Then I realize that it's me and the amount of trauma that's already passed under the bridge in my life.

Struggle continues to be the foundation of all progress.
