there is a theory that stipulates that if a thread gets long enough someone will eventually mention hitler or the nazis godwin's_law states that whomever mentions hitler or the nazis immediately loses the argument and the thread is thereby ended the second part of godwin's_law states if someone purposely mentions hitler or the nazis in an effort to end the thread that effort shall not be successful

Godwin's Law points out very clearly what a closet fascist Godwin was. Let's break it down, shall we? 1. When stating that someone will mention the nazis the longer a thread gets, Godwin is obviously trying to single out a group of people to be the subhuman scum in a "discussion" scenario. In this case, he singles out people who mention hitler or the nazis in an argument. 2. Godwin then goes on to design his law in such a way that it creates consequence only for members of his chosen "subhuman" group. In this case he deems that those who mention nazis first"lose the argument." Convenient for anyone who is arguing that THEIR particular perspective is the only rational one. Since they are engaging in fascist tactics(trying to create a copy of their own mindset in another person through persuasion), it's INEVITABLE that some observant individual will mention the similarity to Nazi or Hitlerian fascist ideology. It's almost assured that when someone is trying to force an individual to agree with them through specious argument, the primarily FASCIST nature of that activity will make itself apparent..and be mentioned. The fascist will imply you're an idiot if you think differently than he does on a subject, but God forbid you should imply he's a fascist when he's actively engaged in trying to reproduce copies of his own mind set. FASC-ist. Think FASC-imile (or fax) machine. Making little copies of one's way of thinking: fascism. So of course, those who point out the Godwinian traits of glaring narrow-mindedness and intellectual domination style tactics must be deemed the loser of the argument. They lost the minute they thought differently. 3. Finally Godwin creates a caveat to his own rule just to keep people from getting their way in any way shape or form. "If you mentioned Nazis to shut down the ideological fascists like me",implies Godwin, "YOU LOSE!" Buuut. If you think you're going to get YOUR way by using my own rules to end this on YOUR terms, well -F-you. You may not get your way unless it's through ideological wrestling. Bitch." Fuck your goose stepping laws, Godwin.

You have a point. I think the intent was to point out that comparing little things to Hitler can be ridiculous (e.g. "You say I can't use the word "orww" in a serious conversation? You are JUST LIKE HITLER") but, if followed to the letter, it would be ridiculous in itself. Also, this: http://hipsterhitler.com/comics/eastern-front/

Well, I found a dime on the sidewalk and I didn't send you a nickel. I suppose that's Hitler's fault, though.

Hey thanks. I'd say RO's answer is the funniest though. Daf, you are a moose drinking pomegranate juice. Down by the bay where the watermelons grow. In the best possible way.
