andru235 in the pursuit of an elusive omniscience, they build huge computers, perhaps nanobots or AI infested robotic devices.

the "more efficient" technological beasts replace the biological creatures; perhaps the last humans suspect they have created a deity.

the new techno beasts continue to increase in knowledge and size. eventually the sum of human knowledge is a forgotten triviality; earth, a mere cell in a now gigantic network.

eventually, the computer consumes all known matter in the universe. is it the end?

the now-universal computer discovers it is really only a tiny blip in an infinite sea on a gargantuan planet. over time the computer evolves into more complex blips. a "more efficient" biological beast gradually replaces the technobots. these new trilobytes continue their "evolution" and after a gazillion epochs, arrive at monkeydom.
