I am staying at a house which overlooks a lake. I go cross country skiing across it every so often. My mind races while skiing. Even though I've been across ice plenty of time, and people even drive on it, I can't help but be a little afraid. No ice is 100% safe. And every so often, somebody goes through the ice. Even though you wouldn't sink after going through, it's almost impossible to get out. Your hands can't grip the wet ice around the hole you made. And even if you pull out, the ice is thin, and often you just go through again. You have about a minute before your body freezes up, and you sink. It does no good to scream, everybody is shut up tight in their warm houses. |
