what does the term waking life mean to you?

it is what very few do and even less even know how to begin to do and then below that don't even realise it is capable. so many stroll through their existence letting life sleep. they are constantly busy, they believe they have done everything they can with their life. It never occured to them to just sit and whisper for life to wake up.

yes I would offer it a kiss, and it would accept, and it would taste like raspberries crushed in a bowl made of rose petals, and the sound the kiss would make is the sound of a bubble popping. and then there would be a smile.

always a smile. why?

011216

because it is always good to wake up to a kiss.

what was your favourite scene in the film, "waking life" by richard linklater?

every scene, because every scene made me hurt, like trees do sometimes. have you ever had a pain so great that you weep when it is gone, because of the longing for its return?

i appreciate pain and the difficult labour it exceeds to work something valuable in my life, but sadly i do not wish for its return. i much prefer to be painless, exhuberant, and happy. i mean, fuck, what else should we be doing in this life but loving, looking for beauty, and giving responsibly? what do you think?

see...pain is reality, it is truth, when I look at something and I see it awake and breathing i am so sad and so happy at the same time, that it crushes my insides, my lungs bleed when I breath awake air, because the truth of waking life is that we have moments of grace and tragedy and each are equally beautiful but they are dead as soon as they arrive. life is a series of deaths and births one after another, sometimes overlapping, sometimes latticing. but pain is not bad. pain is not tragedy. pain is awake. why is a headache something to cure? Have you ever tried to think of it as a good feeling? Next time try. life will leap to its feet before you.

she made me dinner last night. to say i'm proud of her is an understatement. what do i say then? i'm stunned? still not enough. i guess by going to the restaurant where she's executive chef and seeing the look on her face when she sees us arrive is how her mother and i communicate it to her.
