afrika When I was a young girl
I had a bottle of sand
I found in a shop by the ocean

When you rolled it over
The shells and beads appeared
Like the tide was turning them in

There was a dried up starfish
No bigger than a quarter
And in horror I broke open the bottle

I dropped the baby creature
Into a cup of water
And waited quite impatiently
for it to live again

Although I thought I saw it stir
I must have been mistaken
For the starfish was quite dead
For the starfish was quite dead.

it's always ourselves we find in the sea
