dafremen In ancient Athens, the judgement of specialists was suspect. From the Athenian perspective, one had "enslaved" their mind to a discipline and therefore had little knowledge of much else and so were worthless for leadership decisions.

I tend to wonder what they thought of leaders who insisted on being led by the experts?

Furthermore, it seems a bit disingenuous OR absurd (take your pick) to be both the unquestioned expert on a subject, exerting authority in the name of some superior knowledge..but also be allowed the space to be oblivious when asked a straight question after consequences hit.

If an expert didn't know the data well enough to respond immediately when asked, how were they confident enough to take chances with other people's lives, livelihoods or freedoms?

That's the 1.42 Trillion dollar a year question.
