I remember in the seventies, Americans started driving little cars, turning the heat down. President Carter turned the heat down, and worried about African development. People were saying hi to their neighbors. We studied the metric system, because by golly we were going to switch over. Two teachers and a writer started a coffee shop in Seattle, specializing in fine, dark roasted coffee, and called it Starbucks. Now we have left Europe. We drive monstrous behemoths and fuck the rest of the world over. Land mine treaty? Global warming? Don't make me laugh. I have glasses from Luminarc that say 500 on the bottom of them. I had to explain to my teenage friend what that stood for.

about the suv's i heard that there was something like a twenty three thousand dollar deductible if you used a car over a certain weight for your occupational transportation purposes...for example, a truck driver. suv's fit this weight requirement. i say if you're not using a sport utility vehicle for those sport utility purposes, get yourself a hybrid and get eighty miles per gallon. because that twenty three thousand deductible is going to get eaten up in gas anyway, right?
