amy nada that Pisces would be the ultimate sign, and Aquarius the penultimate, when it's really a round in the year. the Southern Hemisphere has opposite seasons and so couldn't really buy Aries as the start.

also, that astrologers would confidently consult when they don't have house system quite figured out yet. astrology is a messy thing, and when you truly want advice, be informed of all the caveats that go with the interpretation you're given...

the philosophical questions behind the system and the caveats that belong there are quite fascinating, though, you just can't afford to be childish about it.

for instance, most house systems put my Moon in the 7th, while I seem to resonate rather thoroughly with it in the 8th, which is where the more harmonious whole sign house system puts it. since the Moon is a big deal, this completely changes how the astrologer treats me, and what advice I get. so, if and when i get the money to consult an astrologer again, I MUST have a discussion first about what house system they use. of course, I could just blow the whole thing off, but I already find it to be way too valuable to do so... so I'm still pro-astrology, still in the science camp, and still haven't been very impressed by what I've seen from the grand majority of astrologers. my attitude seems to be shared by astrologers themselves, and I sincerely hope they can get themselves out of the sociological mire that they have put themselves in, but doubt that they will, because most go for the New Age where-to-get-money solution. i also seem to believe that the coming generations (like Pluto in Sag, Cap, Aquarius) will demand a little more rigor of them, which is good for the science/art/craft/whatever, but not for anybody's wallet.

therefore, only independently wealthy or patron supported people should pursue astrology with any kind of expectation of fruit. that, or people who are only hobbyists. or, possibly, dedicated teachers. it's this eke-by crowd going with all kinds of false assumptions that cause the drag on the system.

there you go, another rant about astrology. not that anybody's listening. just thought i'd carve it in stone, because i'm kind of like that, about the recording, and archiving. and it gets a nice date stamp with other ideas that are floating in other people's psyches too. i saw a documentary about John Dee and how he advised royalty recently, and that might have influenced my thoughts.

unhinged i have been reading his and my horoscope pretty religiously and daily since we first got together. he appreciates astrology, yoga, buddhism, i suppose part of the reason why we are still together, since those are all pretty important links in my belief system.

so i have been delving into his sign, since i have not known many people in my life with it. but oddly, several people in my family are aquarians. (my sister being on the cusp, and in fact the same exact birthday as his, i think she often displays more traits of a capricorn, stubborn as a goat she is)

sometimes i have to sit, breathe, and remind myself that we are quite different, especially in the realms of communication. reading our horoscopes daily, i am also reminded of that.

for the skeptics, i take the advice of siddartha to heart on matters of astrology 'do not believe because i have told you, believe because you have tested it in your own life and found it to be true' (sic)

astrology, combined with ethnicity, family life, psychological tendencies, helps me relate to people. of course, i don't take it as the be all end all, but i also believe there is a reason why this system has been around of thousands of years.

i.e. sometimes my moon sign horoscope is way more accurate than my sun sign. i read both regularly.

unhinged (dear amy, just a parallel resonance. we seem to have those pretty regularly, especially in the realm of astrology) 100222

amy nada (yeah, unhinged, i think we've lived pretty similar lives, philosophically and somewhat, biographically.)

for just an example of how up-in-the-air things can be, your early Aquarius contacts might not be Capricorn-like because they are by the cusp. some say that the sign change is rather abrupt. however, get this, there are actually two zodiacs in use in the world, so your Aquarians are actually Capricorns in the other zodiac (called sidereal). the other zodiac is used mostly in India, so if a person resonates to it, maybe they have some connection to that part of the world? of course, there are those that say the cusp region is a mixture of energies and these are mostly modern thinkers (i believe i have that right).

my Moon is in early Capricorn, and I definitely have a stopped-up emotional pattern. big on boundaries. i might be kind of preachy and that could be my Sagittarius cusp or moon in sidereal Sagittarius. or that could be the Jupiter trine Sun aspect in my chart.

unhinged, i guessed at your birthday once, and i believe that you had a rather intense late Libra stellium going on, if i had it right. at any rather, the newspaper astrologers wouldn't be talking to that part of you, the Libra columns would be an even-Steven brand of Libra, not the way intense Libra that you (might) have. and, just from observing you over the years, it's definitely something that you would benefit from some objectivity about. or, to know when similar patterns occur in the present-day sky, to look for things that speak to your particular psyche. the next time there's a Mercury-Venus retrograde conjunction in the sky (which also occurs in my birthchart), I'm really going to pay attention, because I pretty much don't understand that part of myself.

so, anyway, there's a lot to astrology outside of the Sun (or Moon) sign columns, but studying the zodiac is important too. i used to read Rob B. but found he had a pretty sucky attitude towards my Moon. my Moon is opposite his Sun (he's an early Cancer) and my Pluto is squaring that, so that, pretty much, sucks, interpersonally. a lot of Cancery astrologers are scared to death of Capricorn.

so i WOULD recommend that you get a real astrologer to read your chart to get to some idiosyncracies but i'm afraid that they would say the wrong, but still oddly familiar since everybody has every sign and house and planet in their chart somewhere, thing and send you up the wrong creek. they sort of did that to me, implying that i was effectively shunned and misunderstood (in a big, bad way) by the community in a past life and that i'm currently working on a "re-live" of that situation. not terribly useful to me. and if it's true, that's not something a Moon on the 8th (in no-take-risks Capricorn, even!) wants to hear. i just chose the wrong astrologer for me, and seem to want them to be more careful and more studied and less righteous about what they practice. any way, though, it's still useful, for the most part.
