bijou no one ever asked me if i thought it was a good idea to expand the town, build a kohls and a best buy and a 20-theatre movie complex and two high schools and a walmart supercenter and various other habitat-destroying ventures within city limits.

no one ever asked me if i thought we needed more roads and more parking lots and carwashes.

so when they ask me if i think that we should let the deer population be controlled in a semi-humane way, i will vote yes. i see them every night on my drive home from work, their green or yellow eyes glistening in the headlights of my car, trying to decide whether to wait til i pass or just go for it. those are the ones that end up dead on the side of the road. the ones that don't are eventually starved or die of disease. there's just too many of them. this town is growing faster than they can move out of it. to where?

i would never point a gun and shoot an animal, unless perhaps it was a charging rhinoceros or something, then i probably should not have been in that situation in the first place. and i can not condone killing as a valid sport. but i would rather see that 12 point buck's head mounted on someone's living room wall than twitching on the side of the road.

perhaps i am just naive.
