James Tiptree Jr is the psuedonym of prominent science fiction writer Alice Sheldon. Alice Sheldon is characterized by her bleak stories and dark feminist fiction. The reason she took the psuedonym was not to make it in a "mans world" but to cover up the fact that she and her husband were involved in the CIA. She also said she was sick of being the first woman in every damn profession. in 1987 she murdered her alzheimer's inflicted husband and then committed suicide in a very clinical and orderly fashion. the note she left had been written years earlier for just such an occasion. this was not her first suicide attempt. |
