dark and beautiful, why do your children not play? why do your grasses not grow? peloponnes dark and beautiful, where did your young men go? peloponnes, why do you hide them? why do you hide them in my eyes? why am I the only one who knows? Peloponnes, how can I ever restore even a shadow of your mountain's glows? is this joy in my heart a relic? a brittle leaf floating down a stream of dried stones? pellopones, where are your castles? And the lives that built them? Are they just now unmoored stones? Pelloponnes could we have saved you? Would it have been worth it if we could? In a world of is and was, who cares for words like should? Pellopones is it truly over? Must we now move on? Must we live in a world where no work is truly done. What joy can I take Pellopones, with your poems running through my breath? What joy is left for me Pellopones, when life after you seems as stark a contrast as death? Oh homeland of my fathers, have you buried my mother's soft din? Oh mighty Pellopones, you represented the best of man. We were not made for this cold earth, this harsh sky. I wish to die now alone, while Pelloponnes is still in my eyes.
