people who so publicly proclaim their own honesty are either politicians running for office or are trying to bury a dishonest reputation.
if someone is genuinely honest, it speaks for itself.

well, if we're being that black and white about things...
wouldn't it be more of a 50/50 type-deal? people being how they are, it seems far more likely that: 50% of self-proclaimed honest people are lying, and the other 50% are proclaiming self-honesty truthfully.
said the girl as they tied her to the post in salem, "but i'm not a witch! honest!" but the crowd assumes, if she is up there she must be guilty, and how dishonorable to still be denying it!
