dusty_pictures for some reason i was getting time magazine at the time. i remember the photo issue a couple of weeks after. after my dad decided not to go to ground zero because the iaff called off the rally of firefighters from across the country when guiliani said there were more than enough aid workers in the city. i remember talking to him on the phone begging him not to go. 'but it already happened nick. they aren't going to attack the same spot twice. nothing bad will happen to me. i have to go help. so many of my brothers died....' and i was sick to my stomach but unexpressably proud of my dad. that day i realized the fraternity my family was part of because my dad was a firefighter. and i looked at the time magazine and the horrible pictures of people jumping out of the towers and i cried.

gas is almost $4 a gallon. tino is in iraq. the pastor at the church i play with regularly was preaching about how islam is the antichrist this past week. the only comfort i have is that i am a buddhist being paid to play in their orchestra while they spread their missionary message of intolerant superiority.

I_was at work. My friend's beeper chimed and he read the newsfeed, which said that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I chuckled and said, "Yeah, right." Not long after that we were watching the live coverage in our break room. The smoke was rising from both towers and there was no more chuckling.

In my office, doing my morning routine. Voicemail, email, check the server logs, check the backup logs, and coffee coffee coffee. One of my coworkers, a particularly wisecracky practical joker, stopped suddenly in my doorway and asked, "Did you hear about the plane that hit the World Trade Center?" I thought for a minute, and then said, "I dunno, I give, haven't heard this one. What about it?" ... I really hadn't heard, but that didn't stop me spending the whole day feeling like a schmuck.
