dafremen Some of you know that I'm a Libran not just in sign, but in habit as well. This practically pointless conversation about dogs and cats being eaten by Haitians is little more than a distraction, but I'd still like to provide a very plausible case for why Haitians shouldn't be made into villains because, yes..I believe they might've eaten a few cats.

I loves me some kitties, so this was intense research. It got traumatic at times, but NOT because Haitians are bad people or even evil. They just have different traditions. It's not much different than Peruvians eating Guinea pigs as street food.

First off. I don't believe for a second that a Haitian ate a dog, unless they had some rural Asian background, morbid curiosity or were just a sicko. In either event, that just means they probably weren't raised in Haiti. Haitians find the idea of eating dogs repugnant for all sorts of reasons. Many related to primitive traditions of viewing dogs as grovelling beggars. This view is quite prevalent throughout the world. Haitian immigrants did NOT eat dogs imho.

Now on to the cats. I think we can all imagine the terror of being a pet owner in America who finds out that people in your neighborhood are catching and eating pets. There's no reason to beat that dead horse anymore. Yes..that is HORRIFIC. Just reading about how cats were sold and prepared in the markets of Haiti was DISTURBING to say the least. But that's because I wasn't raised there.

So let's paint a fair picture of Haitians and their cat eating practices.

Most people in Haiti will not eat a pet cat, but there's a catch. In order to be marked safe in Haiti, a pet cat must have one of its ears notched or otherwise marked.

Haitians and most of the 3rd world do not see cats as "members of the family" like we do. If they DO have a pet cat, it's to keep mice and other vermin under control. It's not their cuddly cousin like it is for us, although some children WILL play with and treat the cats as pets that way. But it's a thing they don't do as much, because they'll also be EATING a cat at some point in their lives. It's considered a special occasion delicacy, like spiral ham, prime rib or turkey.

So now, try to jump into a Haitian's head with me for a second.

You've just arrived in America, land of golden streets..where milk and honey flow like water. Freedom! Opportunity! A chance to finally rise above the mud! The house is clean, the food is clean. The water is clean. Mom is working what we would consider an underpaid position, but because they've been so oppressed by the rich in their own, poverty-stricken country it seems like heaven.

(Especially since we'll be subsidizing that lifestyle with welfare so that she doesn't notice how untenable her wages are. This way factory owners and investors can avoid dealing with Americans who know what a crappy job looks like and don't put in half of the effort for low pay as a form of on-the-job protest.)

The Haitian kids are in heaven. Their parents are in heaven.

They are so grateful for this new life, they want to celebrate. And look, not only does America give you free money, free food and "good" pay, they have lots of unmarked "feral" cats running around. They all look so fat and well fed! "What an AMAZING COUNTRY THIS IS!" they think. "What a land of ENDLESS opportunities compared to Haiti!"

And then, they find a cat whose ear isn't clipped (most of them) and they celebrate this blessing in their lives. To the horror of the rest of us. Still, they weren't TRYING to do anything wrong. They just weren't assimilated properly because politicians and business people wanted to ram them into the country to increase productivity without increasing wages.

Why are we bashing immigrants when its big business that's tired of labor pushing back, demanding better wages and working conditions?

Big business is influencing politicians to import fresh desperation who will put up with their crap, because our country seems like paradise compared to Haiti.

This is all to break the back of working people.. It's not the Haitians' fault that our backstabbing, sit-on-their-ass, profit-obsessed countrymen gave them the opportunity for a better life in this amazing land of ours. Unchecked capitalists are capitalism's biggest embarrassments and its biggest liabilities. They should always be chopped down to size before they get too big. Always. Healthy capitalism requires it. Monopoly is a capitalist cancer.

Meanwhile, Haitians and other immigrants are like us in wanting a better life for themselves and their families. They are simply being USED by cold-blooded globalist traitors, who want to avoid paying a fair slice of the pie to their workers.

We'll get the cat misunderstanding worked out. Maybe the Humane Society could just stop gassing them in dumpsters and donate them to Haitian communities. I dunno. That's my final input on the subject. Thanks for reading.

Phil The disturbing thing is the overt racism (xenophobia, jingoism, prejudice, whatever you want to call it) in the story, as it is retold by countless people, each making a socially acceptable slight against immigrants and dark skinned people; passed around like a cold potato.

Not only may the story be untrue.

What makes it kosher is Haitans are a poorly educated impoverished minority, aka trash. They may as well be Asians or Mexicans.

If it was an Irish "suspect", you wouldn't hear: the Irish are eating dogs. You could, but they aren't a target anymore.

We also have sexism, like a tire fire smoldering uniformly across the country.
