hsg 6000 is one estimate by some civil_engineer to be optimum. Now I like big cities.. well busy cities. I like NYC in that you can go out at 3am and see people roller_blading

But what this guy suggested is that with a city this size it's large enough to cover all your bases (basis?) with some redundancy but not too much and still be small enough where people know each other, hold each_other accountable. My high_school had over 2000 people. That gives me a working idea of what 6000 might be.

unhinged aren't most big cities like nyc, and even here in milwaukee for that matter, broken up into smaller neighborhoods for much that same reason? 110509

Doar Ok, I look at it from a future view,

Yes you may "enjoy" the city life, the social aspect of living, interacting, being a part of the social fabric of your immediate world. But look beyond this, how young, how old, do you have children that you want to be like what you live in the present.

Resources are finite, unless we expand into the unknown galaxy. Are we dealing with a pretend play from childhood where we don't care about the future.

the human race is consuming more resources than this world can produce.

just by this post, i do worry about my nieces and nephews. And this is not religious in nature, but they will inherit this limited world.

more_efficient_city_sizes should be discussed more and expanded upon.

attitudes must change, energy efficient, less urban sprawl, more public knowledge, and even more knowledge.

Become not a consumer of our planet but an intelligent partner.

nuff said.

the thing that comes to mind is a friend of mine, h. She works at a store that is 22km from her apartment and between there there are about 6 other locations. Surely someone from over there is working here. It's wasteful. There are thousands of examples. Carpooling. cycling_advocacy raw_foods local_gardens NYCould be that conscious and in some limited ways is by default like a nearby convenience store, but it isn't by design.. it's an accident.

physical_resources are limited but not technology. biomimicry
(http://www.biomimicryinstitute.org/) is the future (and the past) of engineering. Nature doesn't really limit the # of seeds a plant makes for fear of scarcity. An imal's poop is top_notch fertilizer, fresher than you could ever purchase.
