Who formed us thus: that always, despite our aspirations, we wave as though departing? Like one lingering to look, from a high final hill, out over the valley he intends to leave forever, we spend our lives saying goodbye. rainer_maria_rilke dunio elegy #8

i said goodbye when what i meant to say was just a little, just for now, just until... find me when. i was wishing to run headlong into an answer easy, a path that at least looked numbing at the time. i was only hearing one language, just words, not the songs beneath. trapped in my own version of the tragic turn. the deed is done, the bleeding staunched, and i'm left tense and tender and wondering how much of you i'll get back.

Every time we meet we're just there to say good bye and every time we talk out last words are good night. We're always saying, "Later." And then it's time to go. Just once, I wish that we only said hello.
