I'm a bit confused by this whole birth control thing. A few years back, I seem to remember folks wanted to force Welfare mothers to have their tubes tied or have the Norplant contraceptive implanted in their arms at taxpayer expense. Liberals were up in arms, conservatives thought it was a great idea.
Now, apparently women would like the state to provide contraceptives BEFORE they are overwhelmed with children; before they are swamped with rugrats who will require slopping from the public trough.
They would like birth control provided by the state. And in a stunning reversal of opinion, the conservative camp has decided that it DOESN'T want the state to provide birth control..at least not if the recipients WANT birth control provided to them.
These folks appear to be proponents of the "Let's not give them what they want, whatever that happens to be" method of governance. (It's possible that they are also trying to run the ol' "Nanny nanny boo boo to you hoo too hoo" gambit past us.)
So once and for all: Do we want to wait until women are knocked up with 10 kids swinging from their teats, and on welfare before we provide them with state funded birth control? Or can we maybe save ourselves some time and money and provide it for them now?
(I can't believe we all share the same planet. Geezus.)

Socially Conservative Republicans are in and of themselves hypocritical. If government needs to get smaller, it needs to stop telling people how to live.
I have a great career, make good money and still birth control pills under my health plan are $30 a month. Imagine what a girl without a goood career, or even health insurance must pay.
(As a sidenote, I had to take special birth control pills because full-estrogen pills made me psycho. I think anyone can get generic birth control pills for $4 a month at their local grocery.)
