Buzzy or Buzzmeister or Buzzikins or shithead #3 (ranking is dependent upon day/time/weather), was originally my cat from 8 years ago but went to stay with my parents. He mainly stayed outside with Molly (short hair black) during his tenure there, but has started to develop problems walking. We have taken him in and he is curable with treatment, as he has a hyperthyroid, so in the next few weeks he will hopefully not be burning so many calories and putting a little bit of weight back on. He is one of my oldest friends and he will be 20 yrs young this August. He still loves to play (great mouser) and be a lap cat. He had to be shaved because of horrible matting but every day from now on will comfortable, fed/watered and most importantly be loved everyday.
Rhin has become his new protector and dotes on him.

Well here is the update;
Buzzy or his royal highness (my secret name for him), is doing very well. His coat is shiney after a couple of bathings, which he hates but is very safe for him as Rhin and I coordinate to make sure he is kept warm at all times and is as comforting as possible.
The cute little rascal seems to lapping up all the attention he can, and it is rightly justified. I felt horrible when I had to ask my parents to take care of him, but what was happening at the time, would not have been good for him or myself.
He is safe now. Rhin, Izzy and Buzzy, it's good to be alive.

Death of a Rose
|
For those who care, The Buzzman passed away in June of last year. It devestated Rhin and I.
He is in a hand made Urn on our current hutch/shelving.
We still miss him and his little way of speaking. Mostly his warmth and just him. Always ready to greet you, but hurt to get up. Loved to drink water, couldn't get enough of it and when you were preparing to set the bowl down he would jump from front left paw to right paw in anticipation.
He was always a gentlemen to cats he liked (my sister's cat Sophie at my mom's place).
Anyways, we also got his paw prints cast and in ink.
Many, many dear memories of him.

I built a little box to keep his ashes in and it always is on a shelf nearby for the reminder of the love he gave everyone.
I also built him a planter box memorial garden with a plaque that reads "Buzzy's Memorial Garden". Sadly I have not had the time to clean it out properly and plant more peppers, tomatoes, onions, chives.....and I feel horrible about it. It weighs on me.

Hey LS. Good to read your words again my friend. Do I have tails to tell about detox unit observations I have made while in there for the past week.
This may be a long read man so if you fall asleep no worries. I wrote this email to a reporter up here to see if it could be would be worth investigating. Backstory to that was I read a piece she had written about mental health improvements. Here is my email in it's entirety.

I have recently stayed at this facility to detox from alcoholism, stress and feelings of being overwhelmed. My wife found this place and the “Triage Hours” for possible admittance. The nurse at the time was very curt with some of the other people waiting to be evaluated for admittance. The one RCMP or Police officer on duty at the time seemed to be more interested in watching paint dry rather that be watching.
I also noticed other odd behaviour and found out some things about the brand new location for the this particular detox centre. They were just moved in there for two weeks when I managed to get in. The staff did not look like they knew where things were, there was always a shortage of something or other that had to be fetched from another room. Medical equipment for monitoring blood pressure, oxygen levels were not the most reliable pieces of equipment. It seemed either very underfunded and a training ground for students rather than a professional team. Communication errors abounded between clients and the nurses (who some did not have the patience to try to listen).
They were still organizing the storage rooms, one person with all the gear placed in the hallway for anyone to grab something.
My experience trying to get to see the addictions councillor was not the greatest moment of my life. I had to apologize to him for getting mad at not being able to see him (when I felt I needed to), rather it seems he is the only addictions councillor responsible for the entire 2nd floor ward. The poor guy looked stressed and I must admit I feel bad for doing that to him. I said some rather unpleasant things, but did ask his forgiveness for me losing my cool.
I tried to make it up by being a better helper and watching the other poor people who looked just as lost and confused as I am. I started listening to people, but there are some people in charge that have made very poor judgement calls when it comes to keeping methheads in general population. I had to intervene between a deeply drepressed deathmetalIhatemymothercursecursemurder (DMHM) guy and according to his website, which you are forced to listen to because he is an artist, when all he really is is a rage filled fixated female hater. I don’t know what his reasons are, and I really did not want to know. But he had the most remarkable, what looks to be like cigarette burns all over his arms. He was always interested in talking to any of the other young women who were there for treatment, asking some pretty screwy stuff. There was almost a fight between DMHM and another guy who also did not like what this guy was saying to the women in the tv room. He should have immediately been isolated/assessed/analyzed and removed from the general population. But sadly that did not happen. All he got was a some talking to by an orderly. And DMHM was busy gaining an acolyte, an athlete and they loved to do physical work outs in obvious places so they could be seen as working out and how tough they were. Great way to be observant of potential problems, from the orderlies.
The orderlies did not seem like they could have handled one of these guys, especially since I only remember seeing one orderly at a time.....
A young man who shall not be named, had a bit of a meltdown and started swiping stuff off of the games cabinet in the “TV” room (the pacifier room is what I call it). I was concerned about him so went looking for him to see if he was okay and he was back in his room looking like he was going to check out. He talked about not being worth anything and that no one cared about him and why should he still be around. He was in a very manic state. I gently got him to sit down and I asked him a couple of simple questions, I listened to him and reassured him that he is worth something. Just because you get fucked over by supposed friends and family does not mean there is not someone out there that would be so angry and so sad and so confused that if he was suddenly gone, they would miss him terribly. But this is a very dubious detox centre because someone should have done more to help this man out. I had him make me a promise to get some rest and I wanted to be able to see him in the morning because he needed to talk more and he helped me as well understand a little more about myself, because I have been exactly where he is at in a very low point in my life. The great thing was he got up, looked rested but still haggard. I gave him my breakfast tray to get some food in him and fetched him some coffee/milk. Then I got his own tray and he ate all of it. I did not want to see/hear about some guy getting out and immediately die of an overdose or suicide. And how was he being treated? Who the fuck knows because he certainly did not look like he was benefitting from whatever supervision or consultation.
This is not a treatment facility at all, I think they even state it, but have some common decency to maybe have more than 1 part time psychiatrist who will not talk to you after your first interview and maybe shows a little more compassion. It felt like being treated as a number that needed to be completed so he could get his pay check. He just did not seem that interested in even listening, just getting the filling out questionnaire’s done get the hell out of there.
There are some excellent nurses who work there (Lea comes to mind and a short red haired lady). I was always respectiful (I hope) to all of them. But there were also the nurses who wanted to Facebook or chat about personal/non-related work.
Maybe one little thing or more than one little thing should be changed about the attitude towards mental health. Constantly underfunded, untrained staff, better fire inspections (as mentioned the fire hose stations are padlocked) ""Disclaimer here, I did not mention the fire hose stations being padlocked before this sentence. My only excuse is I was detoxing"". How many inspections are done by the fire department for this facility? Who is responsible for and can have more supplies ready and action plans made for the better parceling out of food. This whole place stinks of careless budget cutting to the bare minimum, just so some politician can say “Look at how great we are doing”. Cutting costs but having outstanding promotional policies that will be cut again by the next government.
Or maybe I am someone who hasn’t realized the world isn’t already weaving the basket for hell.
I really did not know who to write this to. I just happened to read your article. I think everyone in this province knows that mental health treatment is the last thing that is budgeted for, especially with Covid-19 and all the multiple variants we are constantly being warned about, but people are not being helped, especially the people that are the ones who are trying to help. Where is the funding? The proper protocols for security screening, recognizing problems that may have the potential to happen and having personnel that are trained in de-escalation training or conflict resolution. Supplies already organized prior to accepting patients, staff training for room layouts and where things are located. Putting the doors to the “Private Employees Only” washrooms not off the general hallway, but off of a changing room area (dependent upon the number of staff, which again seemed minimal the proper number of fixtures could have been done for not much at all for the reno work). It caused confusion with a lot of the people detoxing that when someone has to go and sees a marked bathroom, but then learns it’s only for the employees.
I know I have an addiction and I have accepted that I am powerless over it. I’ve attended AA’s meetings, been to a treatment centre. Maybe I’m just rambling and I’m probably not good at communication. I was hoping this might be of interest to you.
I don’t know if I’m ready to give my name out at this moment but I can supply my date of admittance (July 1, 2022) and my date of voluntary discharge (July 8, 2022).
There were many more disturbing judgement calls on the actual room designs for patient security, since them seem to not care about potential conflicts that can brew, like the shared bathroom area with the wonderful doors and access. It's nice to know that a 18" to 24" undercut heavy ass solid door on complete with a weird head height slanted opening at the top. Nobody with insomnia or irritability, say like a methhead with burn marks or some other weirdo, would object to having a bright light shining in the middle of the night into their room, not to mention the flushing noises (automatic sensors). Having to noisily slide their privacy lock closed (metal of course).

Hey Doar,
I'm sorry you had to deal with all that indifference, neglect, and the more screwed-up parts of the health system. This should be a healing time instead of a punishment.
I felt the same way, about governments doing the bare minimum, when I saw the place in the Douglas Hospital where my mother was being treated for depression (this was 6 years ago). It didn't look like there was anything to do. It looked like it'd make someone depressed if they weren't already.
And she came out of it healthier eventually, and there were things like a piano room I didn't see my first time there, and I've done craft shows at the hall there partly to raise money for treatment programs...but she was still stressed out by the rigidity of the structure there.
So, sorry for going on a tangent, but yeah, even when things go pretty well you can still feel neglected and dismissed. It's not fair. I hope your recovery journey and all associated with it is going better.

I'm having panic attacks now and going to see a pyschologist to figure out my child hood trauma.
Day by day.
And a meeting a day except for when I have the insomnia for 50+ hours, when I need to conk out for 12+ hours (last night).
But having the shakes and trembling is worrisome, sweats at odd times and I'm always itchy.
Scratching my scabs off again.
Thinking of getting another tattoo and get my piercings redone.

You know what?
The doar is closed. I've been spending my life as a functioning alcoholic, a working alcoholic at being an alcoholic.
And trying to write drivel poetry, that might reach someone out there. That was my thing back after I got raped. Escaping into myself, writing crap that soon was tossed into the fire quite a few times. And just self pity and dreading society in general, I guess there is still reason to dread humanity in general but very specific terms.
I think this moniker is tired.
