This is a yummy part of Polish heritage kiddies!! Paczki(poonch-key)Day is the Mardi Gras for the Polish Roman Catholics. That's the huge feast you have before Lent begins. It's usualy on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday in the U.S. On this day the traditional deep fried pastries are enjoyed. These are called paczkis. The singular is called a paczek (poon-check). A paczek is very sweet with sugar on the top and fruit jelly inside. (My fav is the raspberry!) They are like deep fried rolls and are fattening, but sooooooo good. *drools* If I remember correctly rum is in the recipe. I have a friend who is very sweet to me so I nicknamed him paczek. |
