misstree i don't remember the word
that a boy once taught me,
but it was japanese, and it
meant, roughly, the beauty of
moments of cherry blossoms falling,
a single moment, crystalline,
the amplification of transience
upon the perfection and delicacy
of a moment that is forever
but only so very briefly.

i treasure the word i have lost
because the concept is always close
and makes my chest swell an extra inch
when i am swept up.

jane across the umbrella,
she paints a line of cherry blossoms
on black bark.
this is a line i was never intended to see.
the vision of it was overwhelming
like the time i fell
out of the cherry tree

unhinged this year there was barely a winter
fleeting
like a whisper or
a dream

the blossoms come sooner here anyways
i haven't seen enough winters here
to accurately gage the difference
but
even i know cherry blossoms for christmas
are just too damn early

blossoms turn to fruit
the fruit already moldy in my refrigerator
the season ends

just too damn early
