the discovery channel should run some documentaries on folks as if they were discussing the life of a tree vole: enlightenment being found out a sham, suicide being too cliche, and the upheavals and uncertainty of their ineffectual attempts at true adventure too wearisome, these young adults decide that maybe what is best is to live the life of their parents, and so the educated middle class perpetuates itself. it's nice sitting in your car and seeing someone in a multi-floor housing complex standing on their balcony smoking. they move with silent film easiness, a smooth veneer to every action, too far to see any doubt on their face. you feel a wound up cog, but in a good way. i hate those tv programs that have the time down in the corner...they either remind you how late you're up or how late you are for work. |
