even for the considerable tensions america was experiencing when jazz arose, it seems now that jazz came from a simpler time. the way the trumpets and beat describe industry, and vibrance, and the way even the chaos seems organized and forgiveable, these all betray a time when america was a very different place. just try listening to jazz as you see the state of the poor now a days. because it's bad enough that they're poor, but now they're poor in a world that eschews community, that trys to separate and abstract your fellow human. just try listening to jazz as you hear about aids or watch president bush's latest press release. it seems so quaint.

it was born in a world when people could just listen to notes and rythms and have that be enough but today it seems so urally unaware, so un-scene. does this mean we are more advanced than we were or just sadder? more desperate to fill the void with emotions that imitate actions... but there's always been suffering. however it is now on a larger and more complex scale than it has ever been. this invokes many more layers of suffering, like paranoia, insanity, and fear of mortality. i think modern musician/lyricists/poets are more evolved do to these and i thinkit's kind of a karma thing. god i hope this made sence.
