Rhin controversial, contemporary painting of Jesus wearing jeans and sporting a tattoo http://art4god.com

this recently depicted image of Jesus, places him in a more realistic perspective for me. it's extremely enthralling to look at. the painting was quoted as being sensual by (name withheld). that was not my initial impression. he seems more approachable to me...not so out of reach. realistic! my friend looked at the painting with disgust and stated that it was sacrilegious. "but how does it make you feel?", i asked. she declined to answer. i agree that it is, by most religious standards, sacreligious. however, i can't help myself. if something speaks to me so positively, how can that be so irreverent?

'He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.' (scripture quoted from Isaiah)

i could begin arguing countless passages/scriptures from the bible that i feel is controversial or contradictory, but it still wouldn't change the way i feel, or the way that anyone else feels. what is the point if it's all just a matter of opinion anyway?

Jesus (and God for that matter) always seems so unreal to me, to the extremes...both non-human or super-human. it is very hard for me to relate to most religiously correct images of him, which is what continually draws me to this painting. he looks like he's 'one of us'...'a buff, handsome and thoroughly modern American male'. however, i continue to retain the feeling of reverance when i look upon this depiction. he's definitely depicted in an American light. i'm not sure how i feel about him cast in any one nationality, but to each his own (referring to the artist). however, looking at the image from an American's point of view is one that i can positively relate to, because i am American. i am also from a younger generation, and i am caucasian. i suppose the painting's allure is reserved for a small minority, but i agree with the artist's right to artistic expression. he's at peace with God and has no problem sleeping at night, and so i will adopt the same attitude...enjoy the painting for the feelings it evokes in me. it somehow draws me closer to him. i think that the Son of God and God himself would forgive me, if it meant that i were allowing them presence in my life in a way that made sense to me? however, that is for me to work out between God and myself, not anyone else.

one more thing...
does Scott (of Creed) remind anyone else of a modern day Jesus? i'm not referring to his personality or character specifically, but in his physcial attributes, especially now with his hair longer? then there is that song 'with arms wide open'? it's something about him that i have always felt strongly. it's the exact feeling that the Jesus in Jeans depiction evokes in me. maybe it's Jesus himself, projecting his image to us in some sort of modern, realistic hologram? Jesus screams to the little people: "Rock on!" ok, that was stretching it a little far. amusing thought though. :)

Teenage Jesus I wear jeans everyday, and I'm married with two beautiful boys. So the "blue dress woman" rumors are entirely false.

I would be lying if I didn't say I occassionally sport bermuda shorts. I'm 35; I can pull it off.

paste! so christ WAS a pothead? duh...

check this out:

Jesus Christ and his apostles may have used a cannabis-based anointing oil to help cure people with crippling diseases, it has been claimed.

"The holy anointing oil, as described in the original Hebrew version of the recipe in Exodus, contained over six pounds of keneh-bosum - a substance identified by respected etymology, linguists, anthropologists, botanists and other researchers as cannabis extracted into about six quarts of olive oil along with a variety of other fragrant herbs.

"The ancient annointed ones were literally drenched in this potent mixture."

and then...

Mr Bennett said the findings suggested that it was unchristian to persecute people who used cannabis.

"If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ancient Christian anointing oil, as history indicates, and receiving this oil is what made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered anti-Christ."

yes!! but what does it mean to be "drenched" in holy-THC! anointing oil? wow, nevermind.
