as each subsection, each slice of a greater apple, of people has come into teir own, they have faced negativity, opposition, and even hatreds... in time, these hatreds burn out, but it takes generations for wounds to heal over...
being a feminist isn't the expletive that it once was... mixed race couples roam without fear... but kids still get beat for being faggots.
you're in high school. your hormones are raging. you want to tumble everything in sight of a particular gender. however, echoing almost like a nightmare in the halls, through the lips of those you would rub up against with joyful teenage crush, is "faggot," and "that's so gay." kids getting shoved into lockers. the only people that are disparaged more openly are terrorists, and even that has an edge of touchiness, with racial profiling.
i want to give a shiny medal to every teenager who's openly nonstraight. by being a real human being in a world where every type of person is thrust together, where that aspect of your personality is going to be an issue with some, but so very many will get over it, will carry that through the rest of their lives, will have some glimmer of understnading and not think of alternate sexualities as some sort of Other, every day is worth it. a shiny medal and a lollipop and lots of lurve, admiraton, and thanks for hope for this...
