marina 726: nan deska? marina 726: i miss you jimmy. when are we gong to do it marina 726: go to the anime con, that is :-P king kong NINJA: awww king kong NINJA: well we can do that whenever you'd liike king kong NINJA: the other thing will take time...i need to become a warrior worthy of the challenge you present king kong NINJA: nanka kawatta koto atta? king kong NINJA: i just had a lucid imagining for a horror movie i'd like to make marina 726: what brand of horror? king kong NINJA: where is anime con? king kong NINJA: hmmm...well i was hoping for subconscious catharsis marina 726: it's at the holiday inn on van ness marina 726: this weekend marina 726: 3 days king kong NINJA: people fainted after seeing frankenstein and dracula marina 726: i was thinking about getting dacheng and the asian guys to go too king kong NINJA: it spoke so strongly to the post-war and pre-war fears they possessed marina 726: frankenstein's scary marina 726: still scary to this day king kong NINJA: i'd love to do it with you then king kong NINJA: i know king kong NINJA: wanna hear the basics of my idea? marina 726: until they bastardized him into herman munster marina 726: what's your idea king kong NINJA: tell me if it sounds powerful at all...and keep in mind i just thought of it so it isn't fully developed or rationalized king kong NINJA: okay...called maybe the toymaker king kong NINJA: background is society at war with what the propoganda calls anarchists (read terrorists) king kong NINJA: new technology developed that allows a game like halo 2 to be attached to robots on the battlefield king kong NINJA: and in the case of death penalties both players are attached...but the executioner can respawn whereas the victim loses brain activity upon game over king kong NINJA: the protagonist is the best at making these games king kong NINJA: but wants to make something else...and you hear the person saying...we owe it to our stock holders to continue what we're good at marina 726: hmm, not quite sure what' you're getting at. i 've never played halo king kong NINJA: etc etc. king kong NINJA: well it's just a war game...any time of killing game etc. king kong NINJA: guns... king kong NINJA: or it could be even more innocous king kong NINJA: like mario tennis but with life on the line marina 726: when you say "attached" what do you mean? king kong NINJA: his wife grows more distant...she always plays the romance game...and is like...honey it's just a game king kong NINJA: well...i am less concerned with the science than the concepts king kong NINJA: but i mean that their brains are attached...like virtual reality marina 726: ahh ok marina 726: i see what you mean king kong NINJA: did i mention i want this all in black and white to throwback to the forgotten era? king kong NINJA: he has the beta version at home...and catches his son playing it king kong NINJA: the beta version is attached to actual prisoners in a test simulation king kong NINJA: in the background there will be protests of the new technology and how it goes against bill of rights etc. king kong NINJA: but the government in power will use propoganda and false choice to make them seem foolish king kong NINJA: "we'd never fight an unjust war! but if we had to...our citizens would never have to experience first-hand the horror....children could fight the war... king kong NINJA: and the protagonist is the sane person in crazyland...and is all..."they wouldn't know the value of even their own lives!" king kong NINJA: and there'd of course be rampant materialism...and the notion that our society has advanced to the highest level on the maslow pyaramid...self actualization etc. king kong NINJA: the father would grow more and more afraid of his child marina 726: i see what you're saying king kong NINJA: he'd imagine him hiding in the closet at attacking him at night king kong NINJA: the closet is where the game is locked marina 726: don't you think that's slightly charged? marina 726: everyone in the closet? king kong NINJA: the son would become stranger and stranger...he'd say things like...you're afraid...in the game we'd call you a runner king kong NINJA: etc. king kong NINJA: yeah...charged i suppose king kong NINJA: horror is often a blunt instrument king kong NINJA: when nothing else is making its way through marina 726: would they realize the true horror at the end? or jsut go on living in their little worlds? king kong NINJA: in the end perhaps he'll attempt to kill his son... king kong NINJA: by switching on the attached switch marina 726: ahh ok king kong NINJA: on the beta test or something king kong NINJA: and perhaps in the very end...he'd be the victim of his own game...perhaps even although this is over the top king kong NINJA: it will be revealed that his son was his executioner king kong NINJA: and i want one of those classic 40's soliloquies to close the movie...perhaps i was the insane one etc. marina 726: ahh, you say classic marina 726: i say cliche king kong NINJA: i know king kong NINJA: but it will be an appropriation of the cliche king kong NINJA: that re-invents it king kong NINJA: i think it could be powerful king kong NINJA: if done correctly king kong NINJA: i want the horror in the game to be graphic...but the actual horror that is occuring to be hidden and heavy in the background king kong NINJA: well...what do you think? marina 726: sounds interesting to me king kong NINJA: oh good king kong NINJA: why do you never let me read you poems anymore? king kong NINJA: how have you been? marina 726: you can read me poems whenever you like king kong NINJA: what day am i accompanying you to anime con? king kong NINJA: i can't make all three... marina 726: you have some of the best poetry i've read king kong NINJA: maybe friday or sunday...not saturday i'm afraid king kong NINJA: oh you're too kind marina 726: whichever one works best for you. king kong NINJA: but what i really want is to terrify people marina 726: dress like green day marina 726: that's scary enough marina 726: i've been good though king kong NINJA: how do they dress? marina 726: finally found a job :-) king kong NINJA: yay marina 726: black punk stuff nowadays, i think they look silly king kong NINJA: ah king kong NINJA: silly bad i take it? king kong NINJA: here's a poem...and i'll give you one more...but that's it! king kong NINJA: the do not walk sign counts down, and i've seen so many movies and games that i wouldn't be surprised if at zero a building blew up, or confetti rained down from the sky, always at zero something happens. and i give a bum a dollar and hope he buys a drink with it, because i don't know if there's any joy in holding on or reforming, at this point a drink is more caring than an honest assesment. and cars slow drag through yellows so that the car behind them gets stuck at the light, or else slow drag at stopsigns so the car behind them rushes to a stop called out and made still. and a cigarette sparks as it bounces on the ground. and it will be a on a billboard someday, on a billboard or a t-shirt, that bouncing cigarette, the art of a fire without fuel, failing on the concrete. the eyes of a man holding a sign, a slogan, a punchline, the eyes which never seem to move, sometimes light up, and go out like sparks across the concrete king kong NINJA: the title is "love a lunatic city" king kong NINJA: here's another...the title is sky roots king kong NINJA: werewolf her hair, fragile twine roots, quills of a crow, rolls between your fingers, like splinters, through your hands like uncastled wet sand. her eyes, cracked and moving stone- you sacrifice your virgin words, no other words will do, to some volcano that births those eyes. her face when it sleeps, is frightening in its peace, it does not recognize you, it holds a joy that is not love, or consolation, or surprise. her lips smirk upon yours, each of her breaths seem a thick and infinite set, like the essays yet to be written on anna karenina. she touches your hand, and you remember a time you felt like this before: you were a child, you were making games at a family party, you were picked up, whisked away by a friendly aunt, who held you loosely so that your legs dangled in the loop of her sun dappled arms you were placed on the shoulders of an older cousin, you were told you were going somewhere important. the sky for a moment froze in its blueness, you could not distinguish the trees tops from their bottoms, you were spinning, people were laughing, birthday cakes and balloons, and the sky like a cloudy untouched soil marina 726: i still love your poetry king kong NINJA: oh you're just saying that! king kong NINJA: besides...what does an anime nerd know about art anyways! king kong NINJA: shit...i'm an anime nerd practically too marina 726: practically? marina 726: how can one practically be an anime nerd? king kong NINJA: well it'd be official if i went to anime con king kong NINJA: do you smoke? king kong NINJA: just curious marina 726: smoke what :-P marina 726: yes i smoke king kong NINJA: ah king kong NINJA: you pretty much have to when you're a computer genius huh? marina 726: it makes the day pass more quickly marina 726: and i'm about to be a gainfully employed computer nerd, so with the financial backing i should be a chimney come soon king kong NINJA: you don't want to flay and unwravel the day to torturous infinite? marina 726: i got a job today :-D king kong NINJA: i know...you mentioned! king kong NINJA: whereat? whatfor? howzit? marina 726: marina orton, performance engineer marina 726: mercury interactive marina 726: it's down in mountain view king kong NINJA: wonderful marina 726: and who knows what the hell i'm gonna do. guess i'll find out when i get there king kong NINJA: do you think you could troubleshoot my performance? king kong NINJA: i mean...when you get the time marina 726: well, that's my job! king kong NINJA: haha marina 726: i can always use the practice king kong NINJA: i love enthusiasm king kong NINJA: oh...i wasn't talking about computers...i was referring to your other genius marina 726: that's why they hired me! personality!!!!! king kong NINJA: haha king kong NINJA: is that what they said? marina 726: personality which is conveyed over the internet in exclamation points marina 726: yeah king kong NINJA: read...hot girl marina 726: that was the tale king kong NINJA: they were totally enthralled by my use of emoticons king kong NINJA: first i hit them with a :-D king kong NINJA: then a :-\ king kong NINJA: followed by:'( marina 726: well dressed, not totally ugly nerd chick seems to work well too king kong NINJA: :-D king kong NINJA: and lol king kong NINJA: works for me marina king kong NINJA: always has marina 726: i use the emoticons a lot, but not the abbreviations king kong NINJA: tgftbittah marina 726: i hahahahahahah marina 726: or OH marina 726: or blah king kong NINJA: that's thank god for that because i think they are horrible king kong NINJA: yeah...i haha as well king kong NINJA: although to be honest i usually have a pretty dead emotionless face when i aim marina 726: onomotopoiea king kong NINJA: even when i'm actually amused...its as if my brain knows actual reactions are wasted and so doesn't waste energy marina 726: i understand that one marina 726: might as well channel the energy to the fingers marina 726: rather than the face king kong NINJA: exactly marina 726: prevents wrinkles, you know king kong NINJA: performance engineer you are marina 726: they should call it lazy engineer. how lazy can you possibly be such that stuff gets done king kong NINJA: know what else prevents wrinkles? king kong NINJA: dying young! king kong NINJA: yeah that's true king kong NINJA: i'm good at that already king kong NINJA: what's the least amount of effort i can put in and still get by in life marina 726: that's a skill marina 726: something you can market! king kong NINJA: marketing isn't necessary for my goals yet king kong NINJA: but it will be soon and someday soon king kong NINJA: god i hate putting on the fake smile and charming people king kong NINJA: even if i am decent at it king kong NINJA: it's so demeaning king kong NINJA: it's like typing lol king kong NINJA: such a compromise to the usual sensitivities! king kong NINJA: haha...i love being overly dramatic king kong NINJA: anyways...i'm proud of you! king kong NINJA: good going! yay! etc. king kong NINJA: but yeah...let's be friends again king kong NINJA: only because you like my poems king kong NINJA: plus i want to watch frankenstein and aqua teen hunger force with an empathatic mind marina 726: :-) marina 726: aqua teen lovers are always welcome in my house king kong NINJA: wonderful king kong NINJA: let's go out and eat a lot...let's go eat sushi marina 726: of course marina 726: and then animecon marina 726: we'll make a nippon day of it king kong NINJA: sugoi! king kong NINJA: shiawase! king kong NINJA: ja arimasu marina 726: hai, arimasu :-) king kong NINJA: wakatta? marina 726: more or less :-) king kong NINJA: sweet king kong NINJA: nihongo o benkyo shite imasu ka? king kong NINJA: naritai desu ka? marina 726: i was in japanese class for a couple weeks earlier this term, but had to give up on it when i started looking for a job marina 726: i don't know what naritai is marina 726: i know what i know from 2 weeks of class and watching a ton of anime king kong NINJA: haha king kong NINJA: well you know what aimasu means then! king kong NINJA: naritai is the tai form of narimasu king kong NINJA: learn i think...although i'm getting rusty king kong NINJA: i need to practice more marina 726: did you take classes? marina 726: or just watch more anime than me? king kong NINJA: i took classes king kong NINJA: i took it for like two years king kong NINJA: i was almost fluent...but i'll never be able to read or write it marina 726: speaking is one thing marina 726: the reading and writing is entirely different king kong NINJA: don't i know it sister king kong NINJA: don't i know it marina 726: i wish i could find a class that just taught conversation, all the ones i see are both king kong NINJA: mada mada joozu ja nai marina 726: joozu nan ka? king kong NINJA: joozu wa eigo de skillful to imasu marina 726: ahh, i'm way behind you in this marina 726: i am but a young grasshopper marina 726: i'm lucky if i can pick up a word here or there marina 726: and the words i learn from anime are totally worthless marina 726: kaizoku marina 726: kekkai king kong NINJA: wakarimasen marina 726: kaizoku - pirate marina 726: kekkai - barrier. though i think it's more specifically like a barrier to ward off evil spirits king kong NINJA: haha king kong NINJA: yeah...those two didn't come up much in my class marina 726: ahv eyou seen one piece? marina 726: you'd like it, i think king kong NINJA: no king kong NINJA: what is it? marina 726: it's about pirates marina 726: like good pirates marina 726: it's very cute marina 726: they've gone ahead and done it for fox kids king kong NINJA: now they've gone ahead and done it! marina 726: exactly marina 726: i know about it because the one fansub group is headed by a guy i knew at mit king kong NINJA: haha king kong NINJA: nerd almuni king kong NINJA: alumni rather king kong NINJA: well let me borrow some! marina 726: sure. www.kaizoku-fansubs.com marina 726: dacheng has my eps 1-100, but i'd be happy to get them for you if you'd like king kong NINJA: wonderful king kong NINJA: well marina king kong NINJA: time for me to do my minimal amount of studying for the night king kong NINJA: and then write some poems king kong NINJA: i totally rocked hard in oral arguments today marina 726: i'm sure you rock everything oral king kong NINJA: oh dear...how did you know?
