birdmad Another dark hour and here i go along the way.

bottle-glass fragments shimmering like upside-down stars in a greasy blacktop sky, walking on, doing my best impersonation of the shadows on the walls moving along the fences and sidewalks as the impatient traffic keeps rolling by, the signal lights measure the flow of car noise like breaking waves

dive-bar, men speaking Spanish, woman laughing, sound of old-fashioned ranchera playing loudly from the jukebox

clattering of billiard balls inside and wisps of cigarette smoke from the men perched by the door

muffled snarling and barking of hoarse, decrepit guard dog behind car lot fence.

sirens wail, tires screeching in the backward distance

walk a little farther and ponder the cat's-eye slit of the crescent moon
