misstree I was reminded recently that democracy in the u.s. is not given to us by politicians; in fact, they are very much against it. They do not want this country to be ruled by the people. They want it ruled by the rich and powerful, they don't want small businesses and healthcare and good schools and ethical business practices, they want profits and power and war games.

Democracy in the u.s. was originally won by the workers. Because they would not stand for fourteen hour days in dangerous conditions, because they demanded living wages and schools. And when their demands were ignored, for they were the Little People, the Powerless, the ignored, they rose up and took their needs. There were strikes, demonstrations, fights. Civil righs was not a gentle maturation, either; it was a long, difficult fight. People went to jail, but they had an impact, and we now wallow in that freedom from ur comfortable somas. Get pissed. Get pissed and do something, and there will be others with you. There are voices to be had, but it will not be handed to you like action movies and what passes for news. Because the Powers that Be don't want you to have a voice. Because they do *not* have your best interests in mind. They don't want you to have living wages, health care, education. They want you to have as little as you can without getting pissed. And if they aren't looking out for you, who is?

I'm out here on my streetcorner soapbox, but I can't do this alone.

Step up with me, and we can reclaim life, liberty, and the pursuit of *real* happiness.
