ummm... i don't exactly know what "the book of Job" is, i might have a bit of religious studying to do. Can i just ask you why you refer to religious text when referring to "God"? You are reflecting back to stories thousands of years ago, how can you explain how "God" is subtle in modern day? in your life, whatever you think "God" might be? It sometimes irritates me when people are religious but with no sense or reflection to reality, here and NOW. Stories can be good to use as an example however not if they have no relation to today. What is rational and logical thinking? Do people actually use their brains or do they blindly recite age old texts with no questions, comparisons or debates?

the book of job is part of the hebrew bible/old testament, and i referred to it in response to the question "since when?" basically job (pronounced like the older brother in arrested development) is plagued by the devil (who petitions god in his heavenly court for permission to do so) and is eventually visited by a divine hurricane of images--that is god--who basically tells him that humanity cannot understand the workings of god, that everything has a meaning beyond our comprehension. eventually because of his faith job gets everything back and lives a good life again. the christian image is often that of 'patient' (that's not the right word, but it carries a similar meaning) job. the subtlety is that there is a maliciousness running throughout the book from that first moment when the devil is sent to pester job, and then with god's flamboyant display of power and imagery which goes against what the reader already knows. in being just, god is malicious, but in bearing with this maliciousness throughout his sufferings job is rewarded. and so that was a fine ramble.

as I have been subtle, but not malicious with you. dear one I want to love you selfishly, so I have to let you grow for a while, for your own good... out of my selfish love for what you could be. one day you can bring_me_the_sunset_in_a_cup and we'll taste it together
