epitome of incomprehensibility For example: a lot of French words look the same as English ones, but their meaning and usage isn't quite the same.

I was on the metro today, coming up to Lionel-Groulx, where (as the recorded voice informed me) there'd be "correspondance entre les lignes orange et vert."

Now if I used the English word "correspondence" it would sound like the orange and green lines were writing letters to each other.

Instead I'd say "connection." Now if I said that in French (connexion), it would sound like the orange and green lines had some abstract affinity with each other - such as both being metro lines, which is true enough, but not exactly the point.

...and if I'd kept on thinking about this, I might've missed my stop.

unhinged if he wasn't in my life now
i would have mistaken that text
for concern
i would have read all this meaning into
the little scrap you threw me
as unfair as it might be
hearing from you now
cause you know i'm slipping away
just pisses me off
